We just weren't good enough. Started terribly. Were decent to end the first half and ultimately weren't good enough again in the second half.

Trosaard tried but the occasion was beyond him. Same can be said for Odegaard and Martinelli. Merino did nothing except his disallowed goal too. Far too many passengers.

Our manager let us down too by being unwilling to change things. All season we've shown we needed an alternative to Martin and so we need him to work on that in training.

It's disappointing but it's not over.

So, the subs thing... I agree, it's frustrating, but also, look at what Arteta has to work with in the attacking subs department.

  • Ethan Nwaneri (he needed to come on like 20 minutes earlier, I have no idea why Arteta thought that Odegaard was going to get back into this)
  • Ismeal Kabia
  • Nathan Butler-Oyedeji
  • Sterling

Do you trust any of them to make a positive impact? And for the first two, is it responsible to bring them on in that game state, given their age?

I hear you but he absolutely could've and should've brought on Nwaneri earlier. Even in the previous couple games. Since Saka got fit, he's become a bit part and we need him match fit and in form.

Nwaneri, yes, that's the only one I can agree with. Especially when our attackers visibly started to tire.

hey now he also had Tierney and Zinchenko as an attacking sub /j

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know you're joking but hopefully we replace both with real options in the summer.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.funami.tech 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Zinchenko's contract expires next summer, so we need to sell him immediately or he's a Bosman. We know Tierney is leaving so I'm sure we'll pick up more left backs. Sometimes I genuinely don't understand how we have all of these injury problems.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I think we're actually okay at left back now and with Berta in, Arteta can't keep giving in to that addiction. Plus, let's be honest, Myles has made that position his own.

We do need one more defender though. Backup for Saliba, or otherwise general versatility man. Basically Tomiyasu but actually available. If Tomiyasu becomes available we could also just keep him but...

Just one more left-back, bro, I swear, we just need one more

Zinchenko actually is not a bad shout, but do you also have faith that he'd retain the ball? Methinks PSG would have nicked it off of him time and time again.

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I don't think either of them would have done much and that's coming from the local Tierney stan lol

[–] Astrealix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Like if anything you do it just so merino goes up top instead of tross

But Trossard is also our most natural finisher, so you need to keep him on in case he scores out of nowhere

I think Tierney would have gotten sent off, frankly.

  1. Partey lost us this match, end of paragraph
  2. PSG beat us in the press, end of paragraph
  3. Everyone somehow looks exhausted even though we've had a week of rest. How?
  4. The xG battle is 1.65 (for) to 1.14, and somehow I feel we were lucky to not concede more.
  5. We only had one actually good shot, and it was Leo off of that free kick before HT. That should be more than alarming.
  6. Every time someone is offsides, the offender should get fined half a week's wages. That's all communication and that's on the players.
  7. Odegaard, Saka and Martinelli did not play well. If that changes between now and next week, I have every faith that we go through. If not....
[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Point one is so important. Partey likes to cost us in big games. Another reason I want us to move beyond him.

[–] sensiblepuffin@lemmy.funami.tech 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't need more reasons. But this might be the stupidest one. We were up 5-1. Fucking let them score for all I care, you're one of the oldest players in the squad - act like it!

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 week ago

Yep. I was happy to see Rice lambast him.

[–] bootinelli@lemmyis.fun 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't agree with 7. Odegaard and Martinelli didn't play well.

Odegaard, true. I'm keeping Saka. In fairness, he was triple-teamed and they were specifically preventing him from overlapping, but several times he made extremely basic mistakes and was offside at least twice.

[–] bootinelli@lemmyis.fun 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Same old weak spots - Nelli, Ø and Tross. I'll wait until January to judge if Odegaard and Nelli should stay or not. I'm hoping Trossard leaves in the summer, provided attacking signings are made.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 2 points 1 week ago

I think you're being harsh on Martinelli. It wasn't his day but he wasn't the worst or even near that on the pitch.
