I am very seriously asking. I picked up the game couple of days ago and I've been playing and enjoying it quite a lot. However, I am baffled by the Wheel of Fortune tarrot card. At this point I have unlocked like 80% of the collection and won the game multiple times, I purchased and triggered the card probably close to a hundred times and never saw it trigger. Other luck based cards, even the ones with much smaller odds (the banana joker, for example) work just fine. Is it a prank card made by the developer or something along those lines?

No, I have checked source code. We are just unlucky.

Hey! How did it go with your Lenny-break? Did the studies work out? Glad to see you back.

Welcome to Balatro! Lol

It really is 1/4, but it's a running joke in the community that Wheel of Fortune never hits

It's just rng, I'm afraid. I purchase it often and it procs sometimes.

Fair enough! Obviously I know its improbable, but not impossible. Seems almost funny, though, so I had to ask!

I’ve had it proc 3 times in a row on a run, so I no longer grumble (much) about the games where it never seems to.

Understandable, those odds do seem crazy

You gotta pay attention cause the Nope is slow, but when it hits, it's so fast I always have to dig through and see which joker got it

The math is publicly available!

Looked it up just now, and among other search results I've found other people saying very similar things about a "ridiculously long streak which had them convinced it's something to figure out". I guess I'll keep on trucking and hope for the best!

Most games lie about the % chance of something hitting because of this. Balatro does not lie.

[–] cowfodder@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Totally random. I've had runs where it never procs, and I had one run where I got it 5 times and it hit 100%.

Humans are just very bad at understanding probability. Having seen a 1/4 fail 10 times does not change the probability for the next roll.

[–] tschesky@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

Definitely guilty of that! Gambler's paradox and all!

Why is 1/4 less likely for wheel of fortune than it is for glass card
