Presumably, the IRS would only know about them if, you know, they pay their taxes.

Here's location of one who doesn't pay taxes https://bsky.app/profile/elonjet.net

A lot of them actually do, because not paying taxes would be a crime, and it's been policy for decades to only really go after undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes.

If they go ahead with this plan, the IRS is going to be losing billions in revenue in the decades to come.

At this point if you don't have your papers in order to the satisfaction of Nazi America any interaction with the system is a liability. It's not just taxes, people will be skipping out on driver's licenses too.

I'm confused though. How could they pay raxes if they do not have social security number?

They can apply for a different identifying number that the IRS provides. Which is why Trump wants that data. So when you see Trump talking about the deficit, debt, etc, remember that he is fine with foregoing $75 billion in yearly revenue just to kick people out of the country who did nothing wrong (besides overstaying a visa or whatever).

Yes. My point wasn't that "they're not illegal immigrants because they pay their taxes", but that - of all the immigrants one could have - the ones that do pay taxes, while getting nothing in return for it are surely even more profitable for a state than actual citizens which can and do make use of public services.

Yes, but they're still undocumented and can technically be deported at any time. Trump is probably going after them specifically because it's easier to round up the law abiding ones instead of doing the actual dangerous gang members and whatnot he keeps going on about.

focusing on those who file taxes is such a Trump dead brain move

[–] radiohead37@lemmynsfw.com 16 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It’s all about bragging about the number of people deported.

[–] Senal@programming.dev 8 points 4 hours ago

At this point, surely its just easier to say he deported 700k people than to actually do it, his supporters can't possibly care about fact checking his statements so why bother making them factual.

He heard "no taxation without representation" and thought it was a suggestion for deportation.
