Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to get rid of citizen's united and implement independent district drawing and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Man, America sure makes a lot of high fructose corn syrup.

I'm from Illinois and I've never heard of Tuc.

What can i do as an American?

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We can also stop buying these. Replace them with non-ultra-processed foods and we get a health win, too

Doesn't tyson and kraft alone make up the majority of our grocery industry? Like, I don't even know how many brands fall under kraft, and which meats are sources from Tyson. Can I even reasonably buy chicken?

Life isn't all-or-nothing. Buy local when you can. Avoid these brands where you can. It may seem small to you, but small acts by many people lead to big losses for these companies.

Not really helping me select competing brands here.

[–] Okokimup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'm telling you to look local. Find out what farms are in your area, and where and how they sell their products.

Your economy will suffer no matter what, world is shifting away from US. Best thing to do is take care of yourselves and survive the economic storm that's coming. After that, lead the way to normalize relations with former allies.

Mondelez International owns Cadbury

Would be nice to see someone Canadian/European alternatives. Some of these would be easier than other.

[–] FkReddit@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Its very hard and frustrating because EU doesn't have the infrastructure to introduce/rotate products from country to country. It would be cool to have a shelf only with EU products in every Hyper/Super Market. Send cheese and champagne from France to Sweden one month, then rotate it to Poland. Poland send products to Spain or Romania, and so on. This way the supplier doesn't have to increase production capacity to unrealistic levels, and they get some data on what people from different countries like.

I have a database of over 500 brands, it would be very hard to post them all here. The absolute best way to boycott US is to create a Android / iOS app which you can use to scan product logos/packaging while shopping.

That's a great idea for an app
