Rules

While we are not an official Mozilla community, we have adopted the Mozilla Community Participation Guidelines as far as it can be applied to a bin.

Rules

  1. Always be civil and respectful
Don't be toxic, hostile, or a troll, especially towards Mozilla employees. This includes gratuitous use of profanity.

  2. Don't be a bigot
No form of bigotry will be tolerated.

  3. Don't post security compromising suggestions
If you do, include an obvious and clear warning.

  4. Don't post conspiracy theories
Especially ones about nefarious intentions or funding. If you're concerned: Ask. Please don’t fuel conspiracy thinking here. Don’t try to spread FUD, especially against reliable privacy-enhancing software. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Show credible sources.

  5. Don't accuse others of shilling
Send honest concerns to the moderators and/or admins, and we will investigate.

  6. Do not remove your help posts after they receive replies
Half the point of asking questions in a public sub is so that everyone can benefit from the answers—which is impossible if you go deleting everything behind yourself once you've gotten yours.

If you don't like Firefox or Mozilla, stop using it. If you feel that strongly about it, create a Fuck Mozilla community and post there to your heart's content. You're doing nothing in this community with your incessant posting about how Firefox and Mozilla are bad except making yourself feel good and destroying people's curated subscription feeds.

You should file a bug report about your block button not working.

Ah, yes, good old gatekeeping.

What, exactly, are we permitted to post, master?

The irony being this post is nothing more than a complaint. Oh, the hypocrisy.

Many of us have spent massive sums of time and energy supporting Firefox and Mozilla. We've donated patches, documentation, and more importantly our good will to the project, promoting Mozilla as the defender of your rights and of the internet. We are rightfully upset to have those efforts stolen and used against us, and we won't stop raging about it until Mozilla does right by the social contract we all signed on for at the start of this journey.

f you feel that strongly about it, create a Fuck Mozilla community and post there to your heart’s content.

The sidebar doesn't identify this as an advocacy community so I think complaints are on-topic. And, yes, Firefox is my daily driver.

this is as a political issue, and your post is a bad political advice

Agreed

If you feel that strongly about it, create a Fuck Mozilla community and post there to your heart's content.

Nobody wants to scream into the void

You're doing nothing in this community with your incessant posting about how Firefox and Mozilla are bad

Not true, it has sparked emotion and brought attention to a subject. The main goal in protest.

except making yourself feel good and destroying people's curated subscription feeds.

Again, it's a protest. It's meant to go against the status quo to bring attention to it.

America is failing as a country because people are willing to spend more energy on things they hate than things they need like functioning education and transit.

[–] Kitathalla@lemy.lol 14 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I would bet most of the people spending energy on complaining about mozilla are doing so because they love it. They loved what it was about, what it was pushing for, and that it was ultimately a gigantic line drawn in the sand against the intrusion of corporate fuckery by google and their like.

Thinking that people should just roll over and accept things becoming worse is such a weird fucking sentiment to espouse.

There's no one from Mozilla here and even if there is, there's no one at a level where them giving a shit could change anything.

The internet and web browsers are critical to modern everyday life. Even Grandma isn't paying her bills through the mail anymore.

Fairly non sequitur. You're not wrong but people being coached to revel in hate from birth isn't going to be addressed by encryption on your wank session.

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 6 points 5 days ago

This comment is a non sequitur. People's desire to have an "encrypted wank session" (even if that reductive attitude towards it were fair, which it obviously is not), and push back against it, is not evidence that people are "being coached to revel in hate from birth".

[–] cybersin@lemm.ee 5 points 5 days ago

Yes, but less online tracking is still a good thing exactly because of all those people who revel in hate.

What a strange point of view. Are you from the Midwest?

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Are you from the Midwest?

Hey, non-American here. What are the implications of this question?

[–] easily3667@lemmus.org 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I associate the Midwest with a fake, forced, sense of "everything is ok". If you know the meme of the cartoon in the kitchen with the kitchen burning up around it...that's how I think of the default personality type in the Midwest. Don't rock the boat. Do what the law says. Respect authority. All that stuff.

So in this case the attitude of "listen, sure, this bulwark of the internet for 25 years may have just sold out and it's terrible, but they have the power and if you don't like it you should just use the one other worse alternative or suck it up and stop complaining", to me, literally SCREAMS "I'm from Ohio, home of voting for the deregulation which poisons our land and makes it so our rivers literally catch fire".

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

Ah, thanks. Yeah that makes sense.
