"Here is Europe. We have happily paid three times as much to Ukraine as the USA. We are not asking for anything in return and we are not extorting the Ukrainians while they are fighting for their lives. Because we are not assholes." - Rasmus Jarlov, Chairman of Denmark's Defence Committee.

Less to do with assholes, more to do with fascist putin slaves

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 18 points 5 months ago

Well, I think we can agree, that all fascists and all putin slaves are assholes.

Less to do with fascist Putin slaves and more to do with global plutocracy seeking billionaire technocrats who think their goals will be easier to achieve with a Russian empire than with a free Ukraine

US military aid is not paid to Ukraine. The funds go to the US military industrial complex to produce new munitions while old stock is shipped overseas. They make a profit, clean out old inventory, and maintain the Dow Jones.

I'm totally behind the sentiment, but can we get more info about this data?

Something feels off, specifically in how much the EU has out forward.

Also - this is peanuts. The US spends like 10x that, every year, during peace time.

Ukraine out there fighting an evil world power all by themselves and they're barely getting scraps, this is fucked up... I really hope the EU steps up big time, with that rumoured €700B military spending bill.

The values in tweet's USNews screenshot seem to be citing "Kiel Institute for the World Economy", containing data up to Dec. 2024 : https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/

The data can be downloaded as XLSX from here: https://www.ifw-kiel.de/publications/ukraine-support-tracker-data-20758/

Direct link to data: https://www.ifw-kiel.de/fileadmin/Dateiverwaltung/IfW-Publications/fis-import/f319e1c8-5654-4cd6-b4c7-5722ae437d30-Ukraine_Support_Tracker_Release_21.xlsx - files with makros and live update can contain risk, please be careful

And in XLSX tab "Fig 2. Country Groups (stacked)" there are the numbers and the bar chart comparing "United States" and "Geographic Europe".

Thank you, much appreciated!

But we are getting something in return. They're literally defending our borders too. Russia won't stop until they are stopped.

[–] Sc00ter@lemm.ee 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

We're also getting intelligence. We've learned so incredibly much about russian military, tech, and strategy. Weve learned you can blow up a warehouse by filling and old personal plane with explosives, rigging it to be RC, and flying it straight across the border and crashing it into their facility.

Weve also learned that our current SAM tech is capable of countering those new missiles that russia told us wasnt possible to counter.

[–] smokeysnilas@feddit.org 5 points 5 months ago

Ukraine doesn't even get much of the latest SAM tech. It's our old, export-variant tech that gets the hypersonic missiles russia keeps flexing.

Assuming we are allowed to vote again for another president in 2028, the next president should make sure to nullify this mineral agreement with Ukraine.

It hasnt, doesnt and wont come to pass. If Ukraine agrees to that deal, they are as good as dead.

[–] gajustempus@feddit.org 4 points 5 months ago

and we don't elect convicted criminals to become presidents either...

I would not say that European States as nothing in return. Lots of this money and material are loan, and neoliberal rules where apply since the beginning of the european backup. For example, laws against strike and unions.
