Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

At last. A showerthought that is actually a showerthought.

Guys - this what a showerthought is, please take note. Thanks.

Yeah. The showerthoughts on Lemmy have been brutal.

[–] JubilantJaguar@lemmy.world 26 points 10 months ago

Mostly "showerbadtakes", yeah.

[–] callouscomic@lemm.ee 15 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They sucked on reddit too.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 11 points 10 months ago

Yeah probably, they were just filtered by popularity which made it appear better than it was.

Your hair is the roof of your mouth.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 45 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Does that make our brain cavity the attic?

[–] ElderReflections@fedia.io 41 points 10 months ago

It's where I keep my piles of disorganised trash

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 8 points 10 months ago

that's where the cobwebs are.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Fat does insulate.

[–] ArtieShaw@fedia.io 8 points 10 months ago

I would say that the hair is the set of raccoons that hang out on the roof of the house and do weird shit at unexpected times.

[–] MyTurtleSwimsUpsideDown@fedia.io 5 points 10 months ago

I think hair might be accessory to the nature of “roof”. Hair is more the chimney of the mouth.

Unless you're Micheal Jordan.....or Stone Cold Steve Austin.....or Goldberg......or.....

Hot pizza rolls straight from the oven = DIY popcorn ceiling.

The brain is above the mouth so as thought we 'look' down at it. Therefore we are looking from above at the roof.

If a roof is an exterior representation of an internal ceiling, and the top of your mouth is the roof, then what is the mouth's ceiling?

I propose the tissue at the top of your mouth is both. With the lower surface your tongue touches being the cieling, and the upper surface leading to your sinuses being the roof.

roof

| ro͞of, ro͝of |
noun (plural roofs | rufs, rʊfs |)

  1. the structure forming the upper covering of a building or vehicle.
  2. the top inner surface of a covered area or space; the ceiling: the roof of the cave fell in.
  3. used to signify a house or other building, especially in the context of hospitality or shelter: helping those without a roof over their heads | they slept under the same roof.

The New Oxford American.

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago (1 children)

In portuguese we call it the 'sky' of your mouth

[–] pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That's even higher than the roof!

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

When it comes to talking for brazilians, the sky is the limit!

Your scalp is the roof and your brain is the attic

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

That’s why it’s called shingles.

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago

And doing something behind my back would actually be in front of me?

[–] vatlark@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

You sound like my dad. He never misses an opportunity to point out that the roof is on the outside of the house.

[–] dufkm@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

He sounds like a decent human being.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And the nose is the awning of the mouth.

[–] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] Nougat@fedia.io 3 points 10 months ago

Awning of the mouth. Chimney of the lungs.

Chimning of the louth.

[–] mvirts@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

I burned the tent of my dent when the tea I was sent did not have a vent.

[–] Sinkbath@lemmy.today 3 points 10 months ago

Would that make a mustache a gable?
