Who would have guessed that cutting costs and red tape when it comes to public health and safety would result in unhealthy and unsafe conditions.

Everyone except conservative voters...

I wish it I could say that it's hard to forget that safety regulations are written in blood. Yet here we are.

As someone marginally involved in this boondoggle, I think we are past "concerns." This whole thing has been a textbook case study in how not to manage a crisis. The Daycare has absolutely shit the bed, AHS has been nothing but incompetent through this whole matter, they absolutely shit the bed too. Government and regulators were nowhere to be found until the bad press was making headlines in Europe. I personally messaged both UCP and NDP members on day 1, and didn't hear shit from them until the other day. They were all just tightlipped, hoping it would just blow over. Obviously it didn't and instead turned into what it did.

Alberta is absolutely fucked with these dingdongs at the steering wheel, and that includes the NDP too. They are just as fucking useless. Opportunity of a lifetime to hammer the UCP and it's just little puffs of dust from them. As usual.

I have zero confidence in our health care administration, in our government and especially in the safety of my children at this point. It's a hopeless feeling, let me assure you. Absolutely nothing will change, they've already allowed the daycare to resume operations. Business as usual.

Bless our doctors and especially bless Childrens Hospital. As usual, they are quietly fixing everything in the background.

How do people expect them to pay for food inspections when they are cutting provincial revenue by cutting taxes on the rich and giving loss of subsidies to the provinces dying primary industry to give the people of the province the illusion that everything is fine and that the gravy train will keep running.

Wait until you find out they're going to "invest" your withdrawn CPP pensions in the oil and gas industry. There's no easy you're going to lose everything when renewables take over in the next few years.

GRAVY TRAIN!

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Opposition NDP is raising concerns about an Alberta Health Services report that shows a decline in the number of annual food safety inspections since 2018, as six children remain in hospital due to an E. coli outbreak at multiple Calgary daycares.

The 11 initial daycares shared a central kitchen, which is believed to be the source of any contaminated food and has been shut down indefinitely since the Sept. 4 outbreak.

The health authority’s 2021-22 annual report, the most recent one posted online, shows there were 33,728 inspections from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022 – down from 65,560 in 2018-19.

Batten, a nurse who represents a Calgary constituency, said food safety inspections were immediately cut – even before the COVID-19 pandemic – and continued to decline until at least 2022.

An inspection report on the central kitchen linked to the daycares found three critical violations, including improper sanitation and a significant pest infestation, on Sept. 5 – the day after the E. coli outbreak was declared.

Those included cleanliness and sanitation issues, an expired food handling certificate and inadequate handwashing facilities.
