That's maddening. I'd deliberately hit the nicest looking car to get a nice lawsuit out of it. It should be on the car owners to check for bikes if they're opening their doors over a bike lane.

Some places have a rule where if the cyclist judges the cycle lane to be unsafe, they should instead ride in the next safest place, which is in the centre of the nearest full size lane.

Here the bike lane comes to an end/becomes a right-turn lane after the truck anyway, so they might as well wait for the light in the middle of the second car lane, unless they're planning to turn right on Barrington. They legally have the right to the car lane as needed.

I remember this stretch. It was somehow worse than the parts of the city I rode through with no lanes.
