Hello,

Still pretty new to Lemmy. Came from the Reddit blackout. The instance my account is with(?) seems to have a rule or setting that prevents us from seeing downvotes.

Is there a way to change this for myself?

There's not a way to change it on an individual level.

As far as I'm aware / heard, when an instance has it disabled, it doesn't even store information (or process) downvotes, so even if you could override it (such as by using a third party client) there'd be nothing to view.

I could be wrong though, might be worth trying some of the mobile apps to see if it displays it, just to confirm. For desktop, there's also Photon.

Alright. Thanks for letting me know 'bout Photon as well.

For desktop, there's also Photon.

Alexandrite is also a good choice.

They're not just for desktop. Both work well on mobile too. They're just alternative web UIs. A good web UI with PWA support mostly negates the need to have a native app.

You are right, apologies I should've been more specific about that! When I wrote the original comment, I was on mobile and had brought up the bookmark and was like "Oh damn, Photon looks great on mobile!" ๐Ÿ˜…

:)

I have "install Alexandrite" on my todo list but I might try Photon too. I didn't know about it until seeing your comment. I have my own Lemmy server so I'd install it on my server.

I personally find a lack of downvotes to be annoying and harmful. People don't go through the trouble of reporting problem content, and it usually leads to poor quality inflammatory content rising to the top.

If you're new and haven't really set up yet, explore other instances. You can find one that aligns with what you want out of Lemmy without jumping through hoops.

If you have set up, there are account migration tools for you. They just aren't perfect yet

Migration is a problem with ActivityPub in general... It's going to be hard to solve since it needs to work across multiple apps (since you can follow Lemmy users on Mastodon for example).

Thanks. That's unfortunate. Not sure which to go with, I'm kind-of set up. Got communities for most of what I used Reddit for and the remainder I'm not sure if an appropriate Lemmy community has been made yet.
