Did you lift off the metal domes and clean the contacts underneath? Or did you just clean the tops of the domes?
Thanks, I didn't because it was in good condition and then it just working after a few seconds and I didn't think there was any sort of detection for that sort of thing on Nintendos side of things, but ig there was since it worked lol thanks!

It's a pretty common issue, micro corrosion or dirt underneath the domes. But not everyone knows you can peel them up to clean underneath!
I've fixed a few systems like that.
Turns out it wasn't the Dpad. It was the replacement circle pad joystick being dead on the y axis lol that's what I get for going for the cheapest possible lmao
Another replacement joystick later and it works perfect now
