So I have ended up moving, and they opted to send me to an Airbnb rather than another hotel. It's pretty nice. The department and its sub organisations seem to have an exclusivity deal with Quest apartment hotels, so i think an Airbnb worked out cheaper for them than another week in a quest.

Although people buying as many houses as they can solely to use them as an Airbnb sucks and has definitely damaged the housing market, I do like the idea behind it of being able to rent your home out while you're on vacays or whatever. It comes with the added perk that it feels homely.

This place is pretty old, but so is my house, so I don't really mind. Plus I get a washing machine, so I can do all of the washing from the last week in the span of a day. Fun!

Edit: also I'm in Brunswick, so I think I need to become trendy now

Spud can help out too.

To fit in. Wear lots of black. Vintage jumpers, preferably with stripes and some black . Guys can wear items of old army clothes . Wear your hair a bit longer, too short and you will look like a Carlton hipster.

this is more carlton but there is some crossover https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZt-pOc3moc

I was planning on wearing shorts and a fake denim long sleeve. Lucky for me, my barber was closed when I tried to get a haircut a month ago, and I haven't been bothered to go try again, so it is getting pretty long now. Does the "I just woke up and had to go to the shops to buy milk but haven't had a shower yet and am barely awake" vibe work?

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 4 points 4 months ago

Yes, that will fit right in with the local vibe.

it's even ok to wear your pajama pants out shopping

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 1 points 4 months ago

Oh, maybe I am a hipster! I used to do this. These days I don't wear pajamas though

[-] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 3 points 4 months ago

Not a requirement. You can if you like, but then you'd be exactly like everyone else. Which may or may not suit you. Still, it's only for a short time, so this might be a nice way to experiment with that sort of thing to see if it does suit you.

I've never tried being a hipster before, maybe I'll like it. I am most definitely liking this full 5g pulling 110mbps down, though. We technically have 5g in my area, but it's outside only, gotta stand on something, and it almost always drops back to 4g. 30mbps tops

The acid test is to go to a random cafe, and ask for food containing gluten. If they say yes, you've reached peak hipster.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 2 points 4 months ago

Isn't it good without gluten that peak hipster? And where does a cafe that only does nut milk and other vegan alternatives but no cows milk rank? That's pretty much what I imagine Brunswick cafes to be like

Just avoid Alasya. Worst group food poisoning incident of my life.

[-] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 2 points 4 months ago

I remember that! It took out heaps of people

Never heard of it

They're not all that extreme - most will have cow juice available.
