Ukraine is still far from LGBT-friendly, but societal attitudes have improved markedly over the past decade. There's currently legislation supported by Zelenskyy which is in the works to pass civil unions for same-sex couples.

Ukraine is hardly a beacon of western social liberal democracy.

Sudden and strong moments of injustice have historically bolstered rights for minorities. Stonewall paved the way for the freedoms we have in the US as LGBTQ people today. I wager a more unified and welcoming Ukraine will come from this shared moment of terrible hardship.
