"Vote for me, or else"

Lmao no. Threatening us with authoritarian rule isn't going to work. It didn't stop us from doing drugs, and it's not going to force us to vote for you.

It's not a threat, it's a reality here in the south. You can clutch your accelerationist pearls if you want, but that just leads to LGBT rights going back to the 50's. I have a friend that's an LGBT teacher in Florida, she literally committed a felony by acknowledging the existence of LGBT people.

If there's a revolution in the US it's going to be y'allqueda instituting a theocracy, not the communist revolution. The only hope is shifting the Overton window back to the left over time. The current crop of Republicans have to be rendered entirely unelectable.

So that happened with Biden in the White House? Or Trump? Was there a landmark DOJ case stopping the southern states that I missed?

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Curious, do you risk anything under a trump presidency or do you feel like your day to day life will be largely unaffected?

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like blue states will likely do what the red states are doing now. Just ignore Trump's demands. Red states are, sadly, already fucked.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm guessing you're in a blue state, and therefore assuming your day to day life won't be changed much under a trump presidency?

Red states are already fucked, but if trump's taught me anything, it's that he can always go lower. Some folks can't leave red states for various reasons, so voting can be a way to help improve their lives.

How? Biden isn't stopping the state level fuckery.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The fun thing about this one is if you search for lawsuits states have vs Biden, you can easily see what Biden has done to prevent state level fuckery.

In fact this just came in yesterday.

The GOP-led states argue that the Biden administration is unlawfully forcing employers to comply with workplace protections for transgender Americans.

This one was from last week.

Attorneys general in Texas, Florida, Georgia and other state have sued the administration for expanding anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ students.

It's really putting their money where their mouth is - if these states didn't see Biden policies as being a detriment to their GOP fuckery, they wouldn't bother with suing. Therefore that is strong evidence that Biden is preventing fuckery in these cases.

Does Biden get credit for these in your books?

The GOP are perfectly capable of performative lawsuits and laws. They do it quite often actually. They're also very good about getting cases to the Supreme Court. Which is where this is going to end up. In the meantime there's nothing stopping the employer from calling the police for the local and state law violations and then firing the employee for a no show while they were in jail.

The bathroom and dress code laws themselves have to be struck down for there to be effective change.

Cool, please enjoy yourself while minorities are murdered. Wouldn't want you to feel 'threatened' or anything by the consequences of action or inaction.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

So the same shit that's already happening?

[–] shikitohno@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Keep speaking for minorities, I'm sure it'll endear you to them. Meanwhile, Biden has absolutely no support amongst the non-white, first generation immigrant side of my family that liberals on Lemmy claim to be defending and looking out for. I'm sure they really appreciate more white people telling everyone else what they think.

[–] papertowels@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Non-white, first gen kid of immigrants here, thanks Biden, you have my support!

I recognize that a trump presidency has dire ramifications for other minorities as well as myself, so I will be voting accordingly 😤

This comment is a little on the nose, but I just wanted to provide a data point from a different pov :)

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

All the first and second gen immigrants of my family are strongly in support of Biden, and I'm mixed-race, so fuck off.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You're an idiot

Why do you want trump in the white House? I don't get it, what so you like about that horror show?

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

I don't want Trump. I didn't even say I didn't want Biden. I just said threatening people is not how you get voters.
