I am socially awkward, have been around socially awkward people my whole life. It's not about being socially competent or not but daring to blame his daughter in an ableist way and not acknowledging she had too much pressure at home.

I'm not talking about awkwardness. Social competence also means recognizing when to recognise others for who they are, and not making things about yourself
