Almost half of gardeners do not plan to mow their lawn more than once in May, a survey suggests, as an annual campaign to boost nature in gardens kicks off.

Plantlife’s “No Mow May” campaign urges people to leave the mower in the shed for the month to allow wilder lawns with wildflowers to flourish, helping support bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

The wildlife charity says its message is cutting through, with 46% in a survey of more than 2,000 people with garden lawns saying they will not mow their lawn more than once in May.

My neighbour mows their lawns weekly and short. I mow mine high and kind every 3 weeks. My lawn looks better, thiers looks brown and dying.

During the summer I'll see people mowing dust...like we don't get rain for a month and they're still "cutting". I just don't understand the need to mow constantly. Plant some native plants and help out the insects.

I’m all for cutting less…mostly for my own laziness.

But I do the same. Less frequent and taller cutting…it’s not perfect but it looks nice in the midst of summer.

I love the look of some tall grass and native plants, makes everything feel like a nice green field.
