Costs I estimate to be typical for 1 HDD, about 120USD which is about 170CAD

For 5 HDDs, I estimate about 485USD which is about 685CAD.

Ymmv, and these drives are if you just want bulk capacity at the lowest price over all else.

How exactly do they refurbish a drive? Just secure wipe it and sell? I'd be interested in knowing what SMART says for power on hours of these.

Basically. Keep in mind that these enterprise drives are often much better built and have much better QC than consumer level drives, so they can last forever. It's kind of like debating between a used 4-year-old Toyota Corolla and a brand new Range Rover.
