Max just Blitzed everyone else. That was insane. Everyone else is the one 1:22/1:23’s and Max drops a 1:20.5
The only way we're going to see competitive figths for the win the coming years is if Red Bull seriously fucks up the car. I'm not trying to be defeatist or anything and I'm in complete awe of his skill, but Max is actually just levels above.
Max is one of those generational talents that is just going to be blisteringly fast in any kind of machinery, but when he’s given a good car he’s unstoppable.
Mclaren has gotten closer, and if they stay on their current trajectory we might see something.
The thing is Max is good enough that somewhat equal machinery isn't going to make any difference, except reduce the gap he wins by. I'm genuinely convinced he needs a significantly weaker car for there to be an actual fight. He really is that good.
When he eventually retires after going into some other disciplines like WEC, I'm fairly sure he'll be considered one of (perhaps the) best drivers of all time.
Completely agree.
Pre-2021 Max was fighting with prime LH in a significantly worse car, and while not regularly winning, he was still fast.
I hope to see him in WEC and other disciples. If he can win there too he’ll definitively be considered one of the best drivers of all time up there with Clark and a few others.
I'm glad you mentioned Clark because that is actually the name that I think of too when I see Max, especially what with him casually being able to compete with the best sim racers in the world as a hobby in parallel to being perhaps the best F1 driver we've ever seen.
I think he'll be in that same discussion of just universal genius drivers who can be instinctively fast in anything.
I agree. And I think the only way Redbull will end up with a significantly weaker car during these regs is if reduced windtunnel and CFD time dramatically stacks up.
And he'll probably pull enough of a gap he could pit, put on softs, and do a 1:19 if he wanted
Well you aren’t wrong. 31 second gap at the end
