General community for news/discussion in the UK.
Less serious posts should go in !casualuk@feddit.uk or !andfinally@feddit.uk
More serious politics should go in !uk_politics@feddit.uk.
Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
Can we just be done with the fucking Tories already??
Why on Earth over half this country keeps thinking these rich assholes who only want to line the pockets of themselves and their cronies, and sabotage social programs are going to do anything for them I don't know.
Do we really all want to go the way of the Americans where we pay $100s just to see a doctor??
Cause that's what it feels like based on how people are voting.
Let's not forget, with FPTP and voter turnout, it's not half.
In the 2019 general election, they won 43% of the votes with 67% turnout, which, to be fair, was higher than Labour at 32% of the votes.
Brexit was 52% of votes with 72% turnout.
I wish we had a higher turnout and it's hard to justify that the will of the people is not met if they don't bother voting but guess I'm just saying, it's not true that it's over half of the country.
That's what I do already at the moment, out of necessity
They are just piling on the bullshit, then labour will have to sort it out (assuming they're actually going to try), people will be annoyed after a year because "nothing has changed" and then vote Tories back into office. Rinse and repeat
My American ass pays $25 to see a doctor.
How exactly? Are you forgetting that insurance premiums exist?
No, that's paid for already through health insurance. Kind of like how your "free" is paid already through taxes. My pre-pay is just far less.
Well that's a great argument until you account for the fact that not only do you still have to pay taxes on top of paying for that healthcare, but the US still has one of the highest average costs of healthcare per person in the world, which means on average you get shit value on what you pay.
