Fediverse vs Disinformation

2327 readers
214 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

That letter is so unbearably stupid I am left questioning it's credibility. How stupid do you have to be to invite a large scale violent confrontation with Canada. Zero strategic upsides.

Do you think people in violent gangs are usually intelligent? Honest question. I want to see your reasoning for questioning it's credibility. Read up on the Hindu v. Sikh fighting that has been plaguing Surrey, BC for nearly 30 years. Also, check out the Indian RSS leader doing his tour of North America. The timing isn't coincidental.

I think large scale organized crime requires a certain level of strategy and forward thinking. I don't see many gangs writing to the government to tell them how much of a threat they pose to the government. It is bad for business.

Yes, of course. But this isn't organized crime along the lines of monetary gain. This is organized crime along the lines of religious fanaticism/extremism. The former wants to stay hidden to make money. The latter wants to be seen to be feared.
