I wish moving country was that simple
I mean, yeah, it's not that simple per se. But still, people from the US generally have a lot of options. Just did a quick check and for Germany, up to 90 days don't even require a visa. If you want to stay longer you still can just get here, announce your intent to stay within the first week and then sort things out. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's definitely more doable than for a lot of other places.
