There are differences, actually from country to country. Austria for example pioneered the whole thing (at least in Europe) when, what is nowadays conservative mainstream, was in the international media reported as "nazi country doing nazi things". Those stories stopped at some point or had gotten so hypocritical that they approached satire level. Not because those things aren't "nazi" btw, but because they became popular in most Western countries.
Austria has been through at least 3 right populist cycles already, starting in the 1980s. Cycles, because unless the populist right manages to degrade democracy enough, they always blow themselves up due to their boundless corruption.Their voters remember for a few years (except for the hardened Nazi core) and then suffer from mass dementia and go back to those very same people who messed up the last time.
In short, Europe is just one stepb behind the US. The fascist traitors dressing up as patriots do encounter setbacks once in a while though, see Hungary.
