An impressive effort has been made to replicate the exact appearance of old CRT televisions on modern LCD and OLED panels. The page I've linked is very well written.

Oh I love the nostalgia of it all of course. But we couldn't wait to get rid of CRTs at the time is all. Such is life

I keep harping on this, but this is a massive regret - sure they were bulky and power hungry, but I would sell a kidney (not necessarily mine) to be able to buy a modern CRT to enjoy my old PS1 light gun games (Pount Blank, Ghoul Panic, Rescue Shot, Time Crisis etc.) again.
