The only difference between a Chinese 'spy machine on wheels' and every other vehicle sold in the US is that the vehicles sold in the US have all their data and information going to corporations, which are then sold to the highest bidder - which could include China.
There's absolutely nothing stopping the US government from subsidizing US made EVs again. But even when they did provide subsidies, the quality and cost could not compete with the Chinese vehicles.

That's not how their industrial policy works, but besides that I gotta ask: fair for whom? Cause if you don't own GM, it seems like a pretty sweet deal to have your new ride subsidized by the Chinese taxpayers.

also, the chinese government cant arrest americans in america. so if all modern cars are spy machines, why the fuck wouldnt you want your data going to china instead of these freaks?
