What could go wrong setting a big tent on fire, especially when it serves as the only triage center for a nation teetering on the precipice of a complete fascist takeover.

I do find it interesting that this specific narrative has persisted, that the Democratic Party is in any way a bulwark against fascism when it is largely responsible for facilitating the current fascist wave in the US, does not advocate for systemic change to contest fascism, and is a significant threat to anti-fascist politics exactly because it has appropriated the image of those politics.

I understand that you are required to vote for the Dems if you do not want to vote for the much more overt fascists (and I know lemmites get rather upset at the notion that it isn't virtuous to vote for them), but it is a mistake to suggest that their interests don't align more with fascism than they do with any anti-fascism, or anti-capitalism for that matter. They've never championed pro-trans politics or advocated for social justice, we were never allowed in the tent to even try setting it on fire, they just held our issues hostage to compete with the other fascists.

I find it interesting that people still demand any triage center against fascism be a perfect one. Any system that is inclusive will by the nature of humanity attract and include imperfect people, and that includes corrupt and ill meaning people who try to take it over and use it for themselves. It’s the job of the populace to rid their groups of those people, to cleanse their groups of corrupt individuals and take back control. I believe several of our founders addressed this issue and explained it was an inevitability that was the very reason they built the system they did instead of a permanent structure that couldn’t be changed, amended, and didn’t build one that had rulers that couldn’t be removed.

I would like a triage that actually worked, rather than one that advertised itself as such but then collaborated with the fascists

I think it is important to not satisfy yourself with what you have for fear of it getting worse. I also think it's telling that you consider the Democratic Party merely imperfect, like your saucy uncle at the BBQ, and not evil, like a genocidal institution of white supremacy and global capitalist imperialism. Convenient that it is also up to the moral purity of the masses to prevent that violence as well, since that frees us of any interrogation into the inevitability of these systemic forces.

Guess the socioeconomic classes of those "founders," and whether the current state of affairs in any way contradicts their beliefs in slavery as a necessary evil to maintain the composition of liberalism's righteousness, or their willfullness to remove tyrranical rulers when they themselves began dismissing legal institutions within fifty years of establishing them (no, not to make them better, but to commit genocide against indigenous nations despite court rulings).

I wish this was just imperfect, but the Democratic Party is an existential threat not only to the vulnerable groups they purportedly advocate for, but all life on this planet. The gravity of that is unfortunately too heavy to satisfy ourselves with, "not everyone is perfect." I can't help but wonder if you're among the people who have been targetted by their violence their entire lives, and whether you even defer to those people when forming your stance on this institution.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I mean, your saucy uncle is also a tool for geanocide, imperialism, and white supremacy. So am I. So are you it you live in.....most of the west. If you are American, like me, you have to live in this country.

Not all of us are willing to opt out and move to a commune. Last I looked there were only like, 2 such communes in the US. So it eould really be starting a commune.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Be mildly critical of the system I have limited power over? I might as well fucking drop my entire life."

think I found a starting point for you. Why is that what you arrived at?

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would you assume I am not mildly critical of the system I live in? I'm on LEMMY not exactly a hotbed of pro capitalism or even liberalism.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Shit like this is how republicans win the midterms and more of my friends die.

I will be proudly voting democratic and voting in the primaries too.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Your friends died from criticisms of liberalism, huh, rough stuff. Welcome to the "America killed my friends," club, we get dickhead libs who can't do anything without feeling righteous a lot now.

As I said in my original comment, some people have to vote Dems, since part of their evil is holding vulnerable groups hostage. If you can't do that without it also being the morally pure thing to do, I don't think you're qualified to be proud of that decision. We are all forced to be accessories to this system, but you're choosing to like it.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No they’re getting killed by ice and losing rights because people thought voting Trump was better then Harris because of the shit people like you say.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That so? If there's that many people that critical of this system, you'd think they'd have more of an effect than selectively influencing a single voterbase. How strange.

If I was killed by the state, I'd hardly want my friends to respond by using my death to defend the state.

You’re not even worth responding to.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If the Trans community doesn't want Democrats to self-immolate, they should immediately stop being a political liability by agreeing with Dems on everything and stop demanding civil rights.

[–] LuceVendemiaire@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

is this sarcastic? I've had people tell ne I deserve to be in a concentration camp because of mild criticisms of Kamala months after the election was done and dusted

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

This person is being sarcastic, but is correctly identifying that this is the official stance of the Democratic Party and liberals on this thread.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Endorsing tents on fire is kinda the establishment way right now, whether they're filled with their own constituents or babies in Gaza. Republicans are hemorrhaging support because they are being exposed as standing for nothing right now, and if the Democratic party wasn't led by people who also stand for nothing the shift would be monumental. Instead we're losing them to Nazis or they're able to jump straight over the establishment freaks to get to the left.

To be clear, I don't mean liberals as the establishment. Chuck and Jeffries aren't even able to stand for liberal values. Trans rights fit squarely in this category and they're fucking cowards.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Transphobia is a liberal value, even the concept of "biological gender," is reliant on liberal conceptions of the natural world and statically-defined social categories. You can't talk about "liberals" without it being the "establishment," because we live under a liberal hegemony where those values are not only pervasive, but dominant throughout our culture and society.

I'm not saying this to like, catch you, but to point out the dangers in accepting the conflation between liberalism and "liberal"-- as in freedom, or social progress -- as that association is itself a consequence of liberal appropriation of social justice rhetoric and values. Liberals claimed ownership over anti-racism, ant-sexism, and pro-queerness, and the result of that assimilation into a liberal system was the erosion of every victory gained by activists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. These people are not and have never been our friends.
