From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I have only glanced at it recently, it seems... backwards, but I am definitely ignorant, I guess I should fix that.

BSDs are a whole other rabbit hole on their own. If you like Linux I would at least recommend reading about OpenBSD and FreeBSD, or BSD as a whole. Spin up a VM if you want, pretty fun thing to do.

Our ideas of fun might differ

I already have a few partitions set aside for testing other linux distros. What I have seen so far of bsd doesn't make me want to install it, but I have only had a cursory look so far. I am getting bored of continuously chasing privacy and decency for digital devices, it might be time to go back to reading books again instead, assuming they still exist and are legal.
