So many Americans think it all started in 1620 with the Mayflower landing at Plymouth Rock, when in fact 13 years earlier it began with the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. And we gloss over the beginning of slavery in American in 1619. Yes, slavery beat the famous religious landing by a whole year.
So our revisionist history started very early.
Because Jamestown wasn't permanent, it failed. almost everyone died. there was nothing great about it.
There were other settlements that failed, we also don't talk about them.
Plymouth was a much bigger success.
