What factories run from 9am to 3pm ?
More like schools developed strict schedules during industrialization and it was more society adapting even children to all being at the right room at the same time, all taking lunch at the same time, obeying a strict hierarchy without question, not leaving until the exact allowed time.
Oh, gee... at the time parents started working at specific times schools started scheduling at specific times.
