The purpose is to make Americans dumber in public schools. It has nothing to do with puritanical whatever the fuck.

And dumb idiots like yourself are too stupid to realize it's both. Many Republicans literally believe "work is prayer" and that "idle hands are the devil's workshop". This is a thing taught to the poor and the wealthy in countless churches.
