I stopped playing Death Stranding because it was nothing but one long cut scene at the start and I still had no idea what the game was about after it stopped. I have rage quite a number of 'on rails' games. I can find other things to do rather then watch a poorly made interactive movie.
It's actually the best walking simulator ever made, as the focus is on, you know, walking places.
It also has a very simple, but also very satisfying gameplay loop. It actually turns boring once it introduces traditional action game mechanics.
Hideo Kojima games may be interactive movies and not to your taste but "poorly made" they aren't.
Is it a game if you're not gaming ?
Claiming there isn't a game to death stranding is just wrong though. It's hyperbolic to say the whole thing is a cutscene.
There’s two death standings and that second one is bad.
