I managed to get one of my siblings on the path “to get it” aka introducing barebones Marxist fundamentals, and they had like a serious period of spiraling and sudden obsession with politics (they used to be a “apolitical”/“we can’t change anything” type) because the world they thought they lived in was not what they were indoctrinated in to be.

There is a hesitation and wanting to live in the comfort of imagined meritocracy that many “typical” people possess.

I went through this as well. I feel like it's a pretty common experience for many of us

I do think its partly a reason why many get hung up on socdem thought, its easier to square with having “no agency” and being at the mercy of an uncaring elite with bloody revolution as the only avenue for actual change.
