Went to greece a while ago and tried a bunch of coffee there. Did a food tour and was discussing coffee with the tour guide. Told her I really liked their frappes and she informed me that it's an old drink and the only people she knows who drinks them are older people like her parents 💀.
Anyways I didn't let that discourage me from learning how to make them at home after our trip and its entered my rotation of coffee I drink.
They are so easy to make. Takes about 1 minute per drink.
Instructions I use:
- Add in instant coffee and water (according to the instructions in the instant coffee). Note that I think traditional Greek frappes use nescafe.
- Add liquid sugar if you want.
- Blend (I use an immersion blender directly in the serving cup/mug)
- Add ice and milk.
- Serve.
When I make this I also add the ice before blending but I think its more proper to add the ice after.
Do you brew it in thd fridge? I would highly recommend against that. Mix your prefered ratio in a French Press (metal is best here), let it sit covered (but not with the filter) on the counter, away from heat and sun for 10-14 hours. Press the filter down and filter it into a glass container with a screw top. Then place that in the fridge until it's cold. If it's brewed in the fridge, it'll taste like coffee-flavored fridge water. Keep in mind, however, that cold brew is not for everyone, and you might still dislike it, and that's ok.
I’ll probably give that a try at some point. I want to give cold brew a good chance, I just haven’t yet I guess. I’ll try your method next.
