Went to greece a while ago and tried a bunch of coffee there. Did a food tour and was discussing coffee with the tour guide. Told her I really liked their frappes and she informed me that it's an old drink and the only people she knows who drinks them are older people like her parents ๐.
Anyways I didn't let that discourage me from learning how to make them at home after our trip and its entered my rotation of coffee I drink.
They are so easy to make. Takes about 1 minute per drink.
Instructions I use:
- Add in instant coffee and water (according to the instructions in the instant coffee). Note that I think traditional Greek frappes use nescafe.
- Add liquid sugar if you want.
- Blend (I use an immersion blender directly in the serving cup/mug)
- Add ice and milk.
- Serve.
When I make this I also add the ice before blending but I think its more proper to add the ice after.
I have a metal coffee screen "filter" that I bought some years ago that screws onto a nalgene water bottle, then the lid screws on top of that. I put a bunch of coffee grounds and water in, then shake the bottle to mix. Allow to sit overnight up to a day, and our out the coffee.
That keeps it cold without refrigerator funk. You could do the same principle with a jar and a v60 or just a drip filter basket.
