Conservatives don't care about truth or consistency. When they bullshit, and you get mad, it gets them off. Because what are you going to do about it? Nothing. You're weak (in their mind).
They have an obsession with strength. As someone who isn't competitive, I don't really care. A lot on the right are deeply insecure. What I do is turn it around and go for the jugular-- psychoanalyse them. You go far deeper under their skin and they will be madder than they hope you would be by their own trolling.
