Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
- GPrime85
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I mean, trans and cis women aren't in the same boat though, which is why we have white, affluent, and fascist cis women who use trans genocide rhetoric to secure their position in a patriarchal hierarchy. They understand that exclusionary definitions of womanhood is beneficial to a group of people who want to be privileged in some ways but still exclude more unprivileged groups who may want to dismantle say, racism and capitalism alongside patriarchy (as though they're different things in any meaningful way).
You can draw a different comic which depicts this, instead. The existing comic is a low-class cis women who eats up the rhetoric. Different types of people can be terrible for different reasons.
If the point is to make that woman look bad because she subscribes to the exact kind of erasure the comic does, then what is the point of the comic? These are also not different types of people...
There are a lot of white cis women who vote Republican, for example.
And who vote Democrat but subscribe to hetero patriarchal values, y'know, like the Democratic Party does. Stop trying to act like US political parties indicate some kind of oppositional politics, they differ in target demos and rhetoric almost exclusively at a federal level.
You're speaking with someone who agrees with you. I was providing a stark example that is often used - the one of cis white women voting for Trump specifically.
I'm not acting like the US political parties indicate anything besides oligarchy.
Jfc I'm so fucking done with the liberals on this site. No, you do not agree with me on something fundamental. By pointing out one party -- the one that libs love because it lets them pretend they aren't awful anymore -- you are obscuring the commonality between those parties, and therefore the exact point of my comment. Just because you people want someone easy to dunk on, does not mean people who are actually critical of this system agree with you.
"Oligarchy" is such a fucking lib dogwhistle on Lemmy too. Yeah totally, its not liberalism or capitalism fundamentally, it's an oligarchy with some especially naughty billionaires to blame, not the inevitable consequences of this system. This also isn't the first time one of you thinks you have the right to chastise me when I'm actually challenging to your politics when you thought you were in the clear by merit of just not yelling slurs at trans women on the street.
You're really taking that trope of leftists attacking fellow leftists real seriously, aren't ya?
Okay TERF.
You should probably go take your blood-pressure medication.
Oh jesus christ, really? Hahahahahaha that's too funny.
Mmm, I mean, we kinda are in the same boat? Ultimately it has to be understood that no matter what media tells us, women aren't owning the terf movement. There are terf women, to be sure; I'd argue that most self-described terfs are women. But the movement itself is upheld and propagated by men and patriarchy. Like, JK Rowling is a right fuckin cunt, but she wouldn't have jack shit if it hadn't been for Elon Musk boosting her, for Fox News, Daily Mail, etc boosting her, for Kier Starmer justifying her and pushing her to the press. Her power, her movements' power, comes from capital and patriarchy granting it to advance their own interests. I wish all transphobes a merry fuck you, but the "leaders" have owners, and those owners are in that carriage.
Yes, my comment was pointing out that there are systemic forces that incentivize women to support TERFism along the lines of their privilege within a white-heteropatriarchal system. No, that does not mean we wave away women's subscription to fascism as the consequences of some especially bad actors behind a curtain when those bad actors are acting in the exact same interests and are in that position because of that interest.
Lemmy is an interesting site because you'll see a lot of middle- or even lower-class liberals who find some kind of reason to think that people in their position wouldn't be bigoted because it benefited them. It is in fact deeply misogynistic to suggest that the thousands of women who subscribe to this, and definitely do stand to gain something from maintaining a system where they have cheap food and clothes in an imperial metropole, are only doing so because they have been misled. The other commenter on this thread made a similar mistake.
Even though there are individuals in positions of power who benefit the most from this system, that doesn't mean your white middle class mom doesn't benefit from racism, sexism, or transphobia. Yes, people like you can be bad people for very little benefit, they are not "tricked" into it, they correctly identify that their privilege gets them something and have chosen to maintain that privilege rather than challenge it and risk the most minute changes in their lives.
