From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

got a great deal at an estate sale, i9-9900k, 32gb ddr4, rtx 2070 for $350.

I started with debian but unfortunately it's an Nvidia card. the big thing I want to try with this thing is emulating bloodborne, and maybe local AI models so performance is key.

will I be fine with debian or are the packages just too old?

edit: lmao debian wouldn't boot or even successfully launch the terminal in recovery mode after installing the nvidia drivers so fuck that I switched to kubuntu since it's what I have experience with it worked as expected beep boop bop. thank you for your suggestions everyone!

this is my first time with a prebuilt and it's weird working with someone else's HW choices. ugh the RAM rgb can't be switched off I might try to mod it.

I'd go catchy just for the bootloader btrfs support. If you fuck something up just go to your last image and its not fucked up anymore. Basically save states for learning linux

Yeah I updated the system with too little space left on disk and it stopped booting. I rebooted, choose an older boot image with BTRFS and bam I was back in games.

I can also confirm AI local stuff does do well on Cachyos.
