The main predator of deer where I used to live was automobiles. The speed limit was 25mph through the whole city (up to 55mph on the road to the next cities) though, so often the deer lived with fucked up injuries afterwards. Like the other comment, people were (justifiably) afraid to hunt and use their tags on potentially diseased deer
