Back in 1960, minimum wage was $1.00/hour and the average US home was $11,000.00.

Read Hunter Thompson's book "Hell's Angels." There's a chapter where he explains the economics of being a biker/hippie/artist circa 1970. A biker could work six months as a Union stevedore and earn enough to spend the next two years riding. A part time waitress could earn enough to rent a place for herself and a boyfriend.

Just another thing Reagan took from us.
