I both love and hate Final Fantasy 8.
On the one hand: the Dollet attack sequence, the Garden Battle sequence, the soundtrack, Triple Triad, breaking the game with Triple Triad, Laguna being a lovable dork, the combined aesthetic of early 20th century Europe and high-tech, GFs erasing memories as a metaphor for war robbing children of their childhood, the way Edea's magic feels like a violation of reality and establishes why sorceresses are feared, trains, Selphie, and Selphie getting excited at the prospect of blowing up a train with a rocket launcher.
On the other hand: Triple Triad's Random rule, obnoxious scavenger hunts to upgrade your weapons, the orphanage plot twist, running in circles around Balamb to find Raijin, the momentum-killing sewer section in Deling, the sheer tedium of drawing 100 of each spell for each party member for the things you can't card mod, the Adel fight stonewalling me as a kid because I relied entirely on GF spam.
