The field is called Tessellation if anyone's curious.

It shows up a bunch in Islamic art. Lots of trapezoids, triangles, and arrow shapes placed in circled such that the gaps look like stars. Overall shape looks like a circle with circles around it, and then there is a rectangular border at sides also decorated with similar shapes.
