I play online matches on Pokemon sometimes but I don't count competitive Pokemon because Pokemon preaches that losing is okay as long as you have fun and learn from the experience. Also there is a high chance the person I'm beating is a child so lol
I found PokeRogue and have been enjoying it. You start with the starters from each generation (at least, each implemented one) and every time you catch a pokemon you unlock it permanently for the starting team menu. Then it's just endless battles until you reach the end of the campaign with healing breaks and item lotteries in between. Certain actions (or random luck) give you a voucher for the egg gacha. There're shinies. It's just a lot of fun. And it's entirely free with (as far as I'm aware) no paid elements. It's a browser-based game and has virtual buttons on mobile (like a mobile GBA emulator or such)
