Why do these guys always think they in particular will be exempted from the horrible policies they support?
They really do think that there’s an unspoken aspect of these laws that they’ll only be applied against the “bad” kind of immigrants. The immigrants that are near and dear to them, obviously those must be the exempt, “good” ones.
In this situation, it’s pretty obvious to read this guy’s good/bad dichotomy as
. However, this isn’t universal, there’s plenty of examples of this kind of guy assuming a brown-skinned immigrant to be a “good” one in the eyes of the Trump regime (often this seems to be crouched in work ethic/productivity rationale).
He said it himself in the article: "she didn't cross any rivers, she didn't climb any walls". When he was relishing the thought of people getting deported by Trump, he had a very specific kind of people in mind, and no one else.
Lazy immigrants. Back in my day border jumpers weren't afraid of getting their clothes a little wet or breaking into a sweat.
