Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

"Please don't start wildfires" isn't a good reason to set off the modern equivalent of an air raid siren. I hope this isn't a trend as people will be more likely to disable the system.
An emergency alert like this should only be used if there is an actual danger. Ideally localised which IIRC this system can be, so if the local national park had an out of control wildfire I would be fine with a county wide alert going out about it.
Completely agree. I was personally a little annoyed at this usage. There can actually be consequences for some people to have a very sudden, loud, intrusive noise.
If nothing else, how about just the increased risk of car accidents that comes from more people being sleep-deprived after being woken up in the middle of the night by a warning siren?
It was early evening that most went off, although some people got it hours later. Also it seems like it was sent out twice.
Was at an open mic night and occasionally heard some going off hours later.
You're not supposed to use your phone while driving but the only way to make it stop beeping what's to pick up the phone and press OK. So either I'm distracted by the noise or in destructed by the phone.
What was extra stupid is that none of the media outlets really reported on the alert already out or anything. So apparently the emergency alert system doesn't send through an automatic breakthrough into television and radio programming, which surely it should do.
So what they've demonstrated is yet again that the system still doesn't work properly.
