It's important for citizens to understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of the Canadian and US economy before they decide that the country needs a 'deal'. Yes, I do expect Trump will get more desparate and make more attempts at escalating, but I still think it is the best way forward. Time is our leverage, we can enact what happened with his China spat, without needing to levy ridiculous % of countertariffs. He will either back down, or even the more tariff-friendly Democrats and moderate Republicans will notice how messed up the state of trade policy is and be more inclined to fix it in Congress.
