Hello everynyan, we're reading This Soviet World.

Week 4 we are reading Chapter 4: "The Growing Democracy."

EPUB, a link to a PDF, and online reading options, can be found on Comrade's Library. If you find problems with the EPUB tell me and I will fix it. Dessalines has made an audio book.

Those who are interested in more reading this week, might take a look at Strong's Dictatorship and Democracy in the Soviet Union. Its a short pamphlet that includes things we have read in this book and things we will read, you can see the beginnings of this book in it. And why I mentioned it: things I don't remember reading in This Soviet World

let's take a motion picture of a Soviet election

"Motion picture" really shows its age.

In saying so it should be remembered that this book was published in 1935, just a year before the "Stalin constitution" (as she talks about herself) and changes to how elections were held.

As do some of the descriptions of certain ethnicities in the book. Was a bit of a shock to see it call someone "yellow" like that, even if it wasn't meant in a derogatory way.

Yea that remains a larger criticism with the book.
