The first time I saw one of his comics I really thought it was AI as well. The yellow tint was part of it, but I think another part is the background and foreground not matching. Another thing that stood out was just the amount of detail, felt way more effort than most web comics.

It really is too bad for the artists, he clearly puts a ton of work into these, and it no doubt hurts to have others undercut that.

I'm afraid to say I did too and it wasn't until I saw his time-lapse that I was fully convinced. I think it's the soft, studio ghibli like style. One of the chat GPT models was spruiking it a year or so ago or and everybody was posting 'Ghiblified' profile pics so now it's kind of synonymous with low effort AI art (which is such a shame).
