Pirating old TV was just a storage commitment for that. Crazy that over time the file size got larger but it's less of a problem
Sucks that so many shows are only recorded in 720p for that reason. Couldn't find a 1080p of Eastbound and Down to save my life. Luckily who cares with a show like that, which is I guess why it's only around in 720p.
The only copy of Heat Vision and Jack I can find is in 360p

Edit: wait no they like Smokey and the Bandit, I'm mistaken. The 2009 TV series Eastbound and Down is all over the place in 1080p

I could get half a season of Friends on a written CD with divx. I'd say the bottleneck was the DL speed for that era.

Ahhh, now I understand your problem. You're a datahoarder! Yeah, it kinda sucked to collect media back in the day. In the early 00's I had a neighbour who collected mp3s - he didn't care what type of music it was, he just collected 'em. I didn't understand at the time, but now I see he was a budding archivist.

Yeah, but you gotta learn to love the bomb. After they stole my laptop and backup drive (only had 1 backup, silly me), I became disappointed in local storage. When they killed liveleak, I knew the adage 'the internet remembers' was hollow and only the short-term memory thrives, if that.
From what I gather, hoarding music, movies and newer tv shows for preservation is unnecessary, but if you come across an old TV casette recording of a broadcast TV show, digitize it and upload it to Anna's Archive.
Good luck honing your hoarding skills. I too prefer local copies. Who wants to sit through buffering?

Music availability can be spotty without VPN depending on your interests. Streaming services don't curate everything you might want and youtube region locks stuff. They've also gotten pretty cancerous about content striking.
I didn't think movies would be hard until I started trying to watch foreign films. Aki Karismäki films were my personal white whale and now I'll seed those until I die. I forgot about Anna's Archive. I wonder if they'd be wanted there?
