At least 40% of Moroccans are Amazigh who speak an Amazigh language as their mother tongue. The Sahrawi people are nomads with Arab and Amazigh ancestry who speak a dialect of Arabic known as Hassaniya that is more mutually intelligible with Peninsular dialects than elsewhere in the Maghreb.
Why would the Western Sahara be a weak state? The nation is largely socialist owing to centuries of subjugation with strong ties to Cuba and China who could provide substantial assistance and protection in exchange for access to the vast mineral and oil wealth of the nation.
Further, the population is low due to purposeful campaigns by the Moroccan government to dispossess and discourage the indigenous population from reproducing and presenting a larger threat to Moroccan rule.
Self determination has always been and continues to be the best option.
And Mauritania has its own issues with anti-blackness and suppressing the mandé indigenous ethnic groups, Char Bouba war and all that.
