From what I've read, there seems to be a lot of anger among Russians at their government for slow-walking the war and trying to compromise with the west. Also this is an election year so everyone will be pressuring the government to do stuff they want.

Most Russians do not really care about the war and the Russian media has generally portrayed the situation positively - they're taking land, stop 99.99999999% of drones, the sanctions do nothing, etc. Until comparatively recently, you could live your life as though it wasn't happening at all. Maybe you're talking about people on telegram but they're a tiny minority.

People don't pressure the government in Russia.

That was true till recently because the economy was growing at the fastest rate in the last fifty years or so, and there was nothing Ukraine could do to touch Russian civilians.

But this is no longer true. War is affecting people in Moscow and south Russian cities. So there will be greater pressure to end it quickly, even if it means a more 'hardline'' policy. And the opposition - particularly the Liberal Democrats, who have a chance of finishing second this time - could use this crisis to gain public support.

I'm aware. They're also mostly from Moscow and other big cities, which have a minority of the population. I'm not suggesting that United Russia could lose their majority - their rural support has held firm, and polls suggest that they will improve their tally. But this is the best chance for a lot of different parties - including Ukraine - to pressure the Russian government, and I'm sure they'll all do whatever they can.
