This + randomly mentioning the primary love interest is 16 or 17 when the story literally does not change at all if theyre 18 instead

I prefer that to anime where they show the protagonist's pre-teen sister, but say that despite her looks she is actually 18 and adopted.

To play the devils advocate, 16 is the age of consent in Japan (where these anime are made). Pointing out the character is 16/17 is the equivalent of pointing out they're 18. Whether you agree with that morally is a different issue.

I just don't want them to be in high school, man. Doesn't matter what country high schoolers have zero life experience and shouldn't be thought of as adults.
